Curled up on a pile of garbage, terrified and alone, Sydney (then named Sadie) was discovered by compassionate strangers who refused to look the other way. Their quick actions saved her from an unthinkable fate.

Enter Cumberland County Animal Services (CCAS) in North Carolina. Their team took Sydney in, offering her the care and safety she so desperately needed. When her former owner admitted to dumping her after an incident involving physical punishment, the shelter was determined to rewrite Sydney’s story.
Though she faced an uphill battle, including an upper respiratory infection and the stress of a shelter environment, Sydney’s journey took a hopeful turn. Victoria McGonigal, the compassionate founder of Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, learned of Sydney’s plight and opened her heart and home to this deserving dog.
In her new sanctuary in Chesterfield, South Carolina, Sydney began to heal. Surrounded by love, patience, and care, she transformed into the happy, playful pup she was always meant to be.
Now, Sydney’s days are filled with joy, running freely alongside her new furry friends and exploring the wonders of her sanctuary. She’s even made some unique animal pals—horses, cows, and goats! With each wag of her tail, Sydney reminds us of the incredible resilience of rescue dogs and the power of kindness.
